Low levels of potassium (hypokalemia) may be due to:
- Chronic diarrhea
- Cushing syndrome (rare)
- Diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide, and indapamide
- Hyperaldosteronism
- Hypokalemic periodic paralysis
- Not enough potassium in the diet
- Renal artery stenosis
- Renal tubular acidosis (rare)
- Vomiting
